I first thought this site needed a mini-roundabout at least 30 years ago. It was always very difficult to enter from the south and to turn south from north-west. The mini-roundabout is the right solution.
Note that the second lane points traffic straight over the central island. These lanes could have been narrower to reduce this problem.
